The Law Enforcement Oath and the Code of Ethical Conduct are the highest ideals of American Law Enforcement. They are sacred promises to our democracy. They are the most fundamental, and also the most difficult, conditions of employment that we require of peace officers. We need cops who live by them.
Lots of the people I post about are “former” cops by the time they reach courts of justice, or even the news media.
I don’t care. They were cops when they broke their oaths, betrayed the public trust, and betrayed their colleagues.
Calling them “former” is a way for their employers to distance themselves from bad employees in the news.
The truth is: these pigs couldn’t have done their crimes without colleagues looking the other way, covering for them, or otherwise condoning their prior misconduct.
So the roots of the problems are still there, in those “former” cops’ agencies.
That’s cop culture, you see.
