Quotes from Day 1 of Tramp’s 2nd Impeachment Trial.

Here are some tidbits from the first day of Trump’s 2nd impeachment trial.

When you catch somebody in a fraud, you’re allowed to go by very different rules.

So we fight! We fight like hell! And if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not gonna have a country anymore!

Donald Trump, (Unwaveringly supported by American Cops), January 6, 2021

And here are a few choice quotes from Trump’s insurrectionists — oops, I mean, “patriots” (you know, your fellow Trump supporters) — that were presented by the House Impeachment Managers, in a video montage of the insurrection:

Fuck the Blue!

Unidentified Trump supporter and insurrectionist, heard in video presented to U.S. Senate during opening day of Trump’s second impeachment trial, February 9, 2021.

Fuck the Pigs!

Another unidentified Trump supporter and insurrectionist, heard in video presented to U.S. Senate during opening day of Trump’s second impeachment trial, February 9, 2021.

Note: the insurrectionists undoubtedly do not make the same distinction between cops and pigs that I make. (We agree on the sentiment; but not on who “the Pigs” are.)

And

No Trump, no peace!

Many unidentified Trump supporter/insurrectionists, heard chanting in video presented to U.S. Senate during opening day of Trump’s second impeachment trial, February 9, 2021.

“People died that day,” Mr. Raskin said. “Officers ended up with head damage and brain damage. People’s eyes were gouged. An officer had a heart attack. An officer lost three fingers that day. Two officers have taken their own lives.”

Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland, lead prosecution lawyer in the second impeachment trial of Donald J. Trump, February 9, 2021; quoted in The New York Times.

But what I particularly appreciated was Trump’s eventual comments to his mob, hours after the melee at the Capitol:

We love you, you’re very special.

Trump to his insurrectionists, after the insurgency, January 6, 2021.

And waddaya know! Look who gives Trump their “unwavering support:”

Journal cover, Fraternal Order of Police, September 2020.

Meanwhile, all those “law and order” Republican politicians who you think love you so much?

All but four GOP members of the House of Representatives voted against Trump’s impeachment for inciting this insurrection — even though it took the lives of three of your fellow cops, and injured 140 others.

And then, all but five Republican members of the Senate voted against even holding Trump’s impeachment trial. They intend to acquit him!

And today:

Trump’s own lawyers delivered utterly laughable and incompetent arguments that were supposed to establish that it’s unconstitutional to impeach a president once he’s out of office.

After he’s out of office, you’re gonna arrest him. So there is no opportunity where the President of the United States can run rampant in January at the end of his term and just go away scott-free. The Department of Justice does know what to do with such people.

Bruce Castor, attorney for Trump, “defending” (?!?) the traitorous sonofabitch in opening remarks of Trump’s second impeachment trial, February 9, 2021.

They failed miserably, but don’t take my word for it. So say your own Repugnant Senators Ted Cruz  (R-Tex.), John Cornyn (R-Tex.), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK.), and even Lindsey (“the Cracker”) Graham (R-S.C.).

Trump’s defense today was so bad that Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.),  actually changed his position, and voted with the Democrats, that it is Constitutional to try a president after he’s out of office. (This after he voted against holding an impeachment trial.)

Here’s part of what Cassidy said about Trump’s defense today:

“It was disorganized, random,” Cassidy told reporters after Tuesday’s proceedings. “[Trump’s lawyers] talked about many things but didn’t talk about the issue at hand. … The issue at hand, is it constitutional to impeach a president who’s left office? And the House managers made a compelling, cogent case, and the president’s team did not.”

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), quoted in The Washington Post, February 9, 2021.

Senator Cassidy put it in even simpler terms, that even cops can understand:

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), who cast a key vote to move forward with the case, was blunter. After criticizing Trump’s lawyers, he was asked what he thought was so terrible about it. Cassidy response: “Did you listen to it?”

The Washington Post, February 9, 2021.

Trump’s defense was so unconvincing that even Trump knew it!

Yet, despite acknowledging that Trump’s lawyers were not persuasive, your good Senators Cruz, Cornyn, and Graham (Cracker) still voted, along with all but six Republican Senators, against moving to trial!

In other words, and get this, cops:

Your “law and order” Republican Representatives and Senators refuse to even hold a trial, much less hold Trump accountable for inciting a riot that led to the deaths of three cops and injuries to 140 others!

It’s the Democrats who want justice for the crimes against your fellow officers, not the Republicans!

Are you feeling even more confused than usual?

Do you feel conned and betrayed by all those politicians you thought had your back?

…. No, I didn’t think so.

And you wonder why cops suffer the stereotype of being dumb, uneducated gorillas.

p.s.

Here are two more little jokes on you, cops:

  1. Bruce Castor, Trump’s lead counsel today (who knows about tomorrow), and a former assistant prosecutor, apparently talking up his own creds (???):

Nebraska, you’re going to hear, is quite a judicial-thinking place.

Bruce Castor, lead counsel for Donald Trump (today), in his rambling opening statement during the former president’s impeachment trial on Feb. 9. Video capture, The Washington Post, February 9, 2021.

2. And here’s the real kicker: David Schoen, Trump’s other attorney (today),

[David Schoen] was a mob lawyer for the Colombo Family in New York.

Andrew A. Weissmann, former Assistant U.S. Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, on “The Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell,” MSNBC, February 9, 2021. Weissmann tried some two dozen cases, including cases against members of the GenoveseColombo and Gambino crime families.

These two ambulance chasers are going to help acquit the actual instigator of the insurrection that killed and injured 143 of your colleagues.

That’s one helluva cruel joke.

But I doubt you have a collective IQ high enough to get it.
