A United States Capitol Police officer died Thursday night from injuries sustained when he engaged with a pro-Trump mob that descended on the U.S. Capitol the day before.

Officer Brian D. Sicknick died at about 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, the Capitol Police said in a statement. He had been with the agency since 2008.

Mr. Sicknick was responding to the riots on Wednesday and “was injured while physically engaging with protesters,” the agency’s statement said, although officials didn’t immediately elaborate on the nature of his injuries or how he interacted with the crowd. After sustaining the injuries, Mr. Sicknick returned to his division office, collapsed, and was taken to the hospital.

Officer Sicknick’s death is infuriating beyond words.

The utter lack of preparedness for this assault on the nation’s Capitol Building has now cost not only the lives of four citizens, but also a police officer who was defending the institutions of our democracy from our own president’s personal insurrection!

Month after month, year after year, Trump and his minions pressed the propaganda about “left wing radicals.” Many Oregon cops, like so many other cops I’ve known over the years, fell for this bullshit. All the while, Trump has been stoking the fires of his right-wing extremists.

On Wednesday, January 6, he launched his assault on the Capital, timing it to coincide with the Constitutionally-mandated joint session of Congress as it counted our nation’s electoral college votes for president. Officer Sicknick died defending our democracy from an insurrection fomented by our own president — who will, in all likelihood, never be brought to any kind of justice for his role in either the insurrection or Sicknick’s death.

I am so thoroughly disgusted at these unnecessary deaths. I’m even more saddened and disgusted by the Twilight Zone irony of this officer’s death.

I want answers. I want an exhaustive Congressional investigation. I want every goddamned top cop, commander, and supervisor involved in this fuckup brought to accountability. I’m not the least bit satisfied with the resignations of Capitol Police Chief Sund, House Sergeant-at-Arms Paul Irving and Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Michael Stenger.

Just how the hell is it possible that so much right-wing planning for this assault was publicly available on the internet for so long without law enforcement being adequately prepared for the event? Dates, methods, identities, and god knows how much more detailed information was out there. Trump himself was publicly promoting this for weeks, if not months.

Just how the hell is it possible that some 30 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies were all unprepared for this? (Hint: every fucking cop who answers that “somebody else was responsible” should be fired, and damn the labor contracts.)

Exactly who made exactly what decisions in security planning for this? Exactly what were their rationales?

I want fucking heads on platters!!! COPS’ HEADS !
